Environmental Health Services

Environmental health protects the public from disease related to physical, chemical and biological factors in the environment. It encompasses assessment and control of these factors and is targeted towards creating a healthy supportive environment.

Environmental health issues are addressed by:

  • Inspecting Food Establishments
  • Preopening Food establishments
  • Inspecting School cafeterias and Sr. Nutritional Sites
  • Inspecting temporary food stands at events
  • Inspecting daycares
  • Inspecting lodging facilities
  • Inspecting/investigating sewage system complaints
  • Private water supply testing
  • Investigating food service complaints
  • Investigating food borne disease outbreak
  • Educating the community on current food/code regulations, sewage system options, food permits, etc.
  • Investigating animal bites
  • Highway truck wrecks with human consumption food
  • Observing and preventing the spread of communicable diseases

All new or change of ownership establishments must submit necessary paperwork to Sullivan Health Department 30 days prior to opening.
